Situated at an altitude of 2,630 m, this small town was one of the last to be founded in the region by the colonists. It experienced a strong development thanks to the arrival of the railway in 1929. Today, trains no longer run and the town offers little of interest apart from Thomson Falls. It is nevertheless a convenient stopover between Nakuru and the highlands. Matatus trains leave from Ol Kalu Road. There are many daily departures (and arrivals) until relatively late in the evening, for Nakuru (45 min journey), Nyeri (1h), Nairobi (2h30), Nanyuki (2h), Naïvasha (1h30). For Maralal, some departures only until 1pm (3h).
