Tarapoto, at the confluence of the Bajo Mayo and the Huallaga rivers , has a subtropical climate, hot and humid, with temperatures between 20°C and 32°C. It was founded on August 20, 1782 by the bishop of Trujillo, Don Baltazar Jaime Martinez de Compagñon y Bujanda, who named it Santa Cruz de los Motilones de Tarapoto. It is a popular resort for Limenians because of its hotels with palm trees and swimming pools, Tarapoto is a land of parties and relaxation. From here, excursions on the Huallaga River will allow the most adventurous to go deep into a tropical rainforest where they will quickly forget the proximity of the city.
