Nikitari is a must for visitors to the Panagia tis Asinou church, one of the ten painted churches on the Troodos listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the surrounding area, several villages are well worth a visit. Evrychou (16 km to the south-west) was the terminus of the railroad line from Famagusta through Nicosia. Here you'll find the Cypriot Railway Museum and the small 15th-century church of Agios Kyriakos. Korakou (18 km south-west and 2 km west of Evrychou) boasts beautiful traditional houses. Just outside, on the mountain road that runs alongside the B9 towards Kaliana, you can see the ruined houses of the village of Agroladou/Agroladu, abandoned by its Turkish-Cypriot inhabitants in 1963. Kaliana (20 km south-west and 1 km north of Evrychou) is home to the Church of St. Joachim (12th-century paintings) and an Ottoman caravanserai with brick arches. Flasou (19 km west via Evrychou) is an important olive-processing center. Nearby is also the former Turkish Cypriot village of Agios Epifanios/Aybifan, now abandoned.
