Murchison is a small town in the Tasman region, located at the confluence of the Buller and Matakitaki Rivers between Nelson and Westport. The locality takes advantage of the Buller Gorge to propose some activities to the tourists: zip lines, jet boat, swingbridge, rafting, kayak but also hiking as the Ghost Old Road practicable on foot as well as on bike. Murchison is named after one of the founders of the Royal Geographical Society: the Scotsman Roderick Murchison. In 1929, the town was completely razed due to an earthquake that was felt throughout New Zealand.
