Covering 22,350 hectares, it is the smallest of New Zealand's 14 nature parks. It was opened in 1942, on the 300th anniversary of Abel Tasman's arrival. Its territory runs along the coast and is completely covered by bush. Strangely enough, both North and South Island species can be found here. Most excursions leave from Motueka, Kaiteriteri and Marahau. You'll need to contact the Nelson DOC office for information on the various trails, tides and weather conditions, and to book a hut or campsite. You can also kayak part of the way!
