This is the beginning of the reserve, with its beaches and dunes. When the ferry arrives, don't miss the wildlife museum, the nearby exhibition of 19th-century fishing villages and a visit to three trawlers, one of which is motorized. It's free and life-size. At the far end, the Musée de la Mer will delight enthusiasts. In Smiltynė, there are buses and minibuses to take you on your way to the other villages on the peninsula (the two most important being Juodkrantė and Nida). If you continue through the reserve to Kaliningrad, don't forget that a Russian visa is required.
