Kandava, one of the most beautiful towns in Kurzeme (Curonian Spit), has brilliantly preserved its ancient architecture. The cobbled streets, old houses and lanterns embellish the town, while the surrounding valleys offer romantic views of the countryside. First mentioned in 1230, Kandava is home to Latvia's oldest stone bridge! There's also a gunpowder tower and the ruins of the Livonian Order castle around which Kandava grew up. These ruins are protected by Zīļuks bruņinieks, a small sculpture of a knight.
