Churches and archaeological sites: a credo to which San Cataldo remains faithful, with its church of the Meredari Fathers (18th century) and its nearby prehistoric site of Vassallaggi (Bronze Age). The town also has towers, the first of which was built by Philip III and to which a bell tower was added in 1780. The town is also famous for its Good Friday procession. The sulphur and potash mines have long been the main source of wealth for the town, which nevertheless has a population of around 25,000.
