In the 14th century, the Chiaramonte family had warehouses built to store agricultural products. Soon afterwards, pontoons were built for the mooring of ships. Pozzallo was born. In the 15th century the town made its fortune as a trading port and became one of the most important on the island. It still has the Cabrera defensive tower from 1429, which was designed to protect the harbour from pirates, who were numerous at that time. Today it is a national monument and the symbol of Pozzallo. It is now a pleasant seaside resort that lives from fishing and shipyards. The mother church of the Madonna del Rosario can be seen here
