Comiso, a large agricultural town, is located between Vittoria and Ragusa. The road that leads there is more interesting than the town itself. In fact, towards the end of the route, it offers vast panoramic views of the Ippari valley and the coast. Of Neolithic origin, this city was first colonized by the Greeks, then by the Romans before falling into the hands of the Byzantines. It was first called Jhomiso before becoming Comiso. It is however pleasant to walk around this peaceful town where people still live in the old way. Owned by the Naselli family, Comiso has some beautiful churches, including the Chiesa Madre de Santa Maria delle Stelle dating from 1696 with its carved wooden interior roof and the Chiesa dell'Annunciata, built in the 18th century with a baroque façade and a neoclassical dome. It houses two large paintings by Salvatore Fiume. Not to be missed is the Padri Cappuccini church and its convent, the 14th century Sanctuario de San Francesco with the remarkable marble mausoleum of Count Baldassarre Naselli, and a sculpture by Antonio Gagini in the Naselli chapel. The Naselli or Aragonese castle stands in this place, in Gothic style, with an octagonal tower decorated with frescoes of the 14th century. It was remodeled in the 16th century
