Located on the river of the same name, Acate is the old Biscari, the name of the noble family of the noble family, the Paterno Castello, which it depended on (it is called Acate only since 1938). It was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1693, and the monuments still visible are therefore later. This is the case for the church of St. Nicholas, whose reconstruction spread to the th century (see its facade) or for the castle of Des, whose plan still recalls the original construction of the th century.
