Located only 50 km from Havana in the heart of the Sierra del Rosario, it marks the border with the province of Pinar del Río. Founded in 1971, but planted in 1968, the Las Terrazas site was created by the efforts of a hundred families grouped together in a rural community that is very dynamic and proud of its natural heritage. The project was such a success that UNESCO, in 1985, classifies the Biosphere Reserve area. In the early 1990 s, the Cuban authorities, in search of currency after the collapse of the USSR, will try to make it a ecotourism cluster. You are reassured, there are no crowds, and tropical nature has retained all its rights (coffee plantations, trails and artificial lake). The setting of the houses (of long concrete bars and a little peeling in the middle of lush vegetation) can nevertheless surprise at first sight… However, the framework remains enchanting. Artists settled there according to the terms of José Martí: " Where nature produces flowers, the brain also produces. '»»»»
