In addition to Oriente, the French, fleeing Haiti in the early 19th century, also settled in the west of the island. They developed coffee-growing in the area, with some fifty plantations. Partly restored, one of these plantations now makes an excellent viewpoint, with its restaurant set within the walls of the former master's house. Enjoy lunch indoors or under the trees, before finishing your meal with a delicious coffee..
