At the end of a small road west of the North Cape, Gjesvær is a row of houses wedged between the rocks and the open sea, with a magnificent view of the islets facing the harbour. It's also an ideal spot on the island for admiring the midnight sun, and its 130 inhabitants even say that it's often sunnier here than at the North Cape. The village is connected to the rest of the island by a road, which has only been in existence since 1976, replacing the sea routes that were the only way to get to Gjesvær. There is not much to do in Gjesvær except enjoy the peace and beauty of the surroundings.
