The North Cape is a 307 m-high cliff rising above the Arctic Ocean. This coastline, exposed to the fury of the Arctic Ocean, lacks the barrier of islands that form a protective belt further south. Here, when the sea rages, it pounds directly against the bare rock. In winter, storms are fairly frequent and the route to the North Cape is sometimes cut off. The North Cape is a tourist resort, with paid parking and access. Nordkapp is not the most northerly point in continental Europe. That prize goes to Knivskjelodden, reached after an 18 km hike (AR) inaccessible by vehicle!
