Things to see and do Úbeda

It is the center of the historic quarter, a sumptuous Renaissance square that is a bit shaded by the rest of the city as it concentrates architectural wonders. Most of the buildings in the xvie th base surrounding this square are the work of Andres de Vandelvira, the architect of Jae 'n's caesales and Baeza and many other churches in both cities. Ayuntamiento (city hall) is located in the palace of Las Cadenas owned by Philippe II. In the square is the Sacra Capilla del Salvador built by Vandelvira. Although the original plans are awarded to Diego de Siloe ' (architect of the cathe's church of Granada and Ma' laga), it is the most remarkable church in the city of Úbeda, especially because of its magnificent retable of the Transfiguration.

It is one of the oldest churches in the city, built in Visigothic times. But it has many styles: Gothic, Renaissance, the latter having made it even more beautiful. Note the carpenters' door, puerta de los carpinteros, which overlooks Calle Cervantes, in late Romanesque style, and its main door, overlooking Piazza ^{1 de Mayo}, in Elizabethan Gothic style, in which plant motifs predominate. Inside, the various chapels show a very beautiful ironwork.

It was built by Vandelvira from 1540 onwards, although the original plans are attributed to Diego de Siloé, who was the architect of the cathedrals of Granada and Málaga. And it is one of the most important works of the Spanish Renaissance, especially due to its magnificent main altarpiece of the Transfiguration, as well as the sacristy, with its decoration symbolizing vices and virtues.
