Located in the Serranía de Ronda region, this area is a succession of steep, rocky mountains approaching 2,000 m in height, and vertiginous chasms. Its Mediterranean vegetation is rich, but it is best known for its forest of pinsapos, ancestral pines (over 3,000 ha in all). The oldest in the park, the Pinsapo de la Escalereta, is over 500 years old. Birds of prey include the golden eagle, as well as ibex, the most numerous in Andalusia. Since 2021, this former Sierra de las Nieves nature park has been classified as a national park, making it the sixteenth of its kind in Spain.
