Founded in 206 B.C. by Scipio the African, Itálica is one of the oldest cities in Hispania Beatica (which owes its name to the Beatis, the Latin name for the Guadalquivir). The two Roman emperors, Trajan and Hadrian, were born here. According to archaeologists, the deviation of the Guadalquivir River is the reason for the fall of the city in the Arab period. In the village of Santiponce, in the vicinity of the site, it is possible to admire vestiges of the Roman era, such as the amphitheater, the baths, the theater and mosaics. Next to the large amphitheater, capable of accommodating 25,000 spectators, there is an exhibition of ancient objects
