Machchafushi belongs to the category of small islands since it is only 2.5 hectares in size. Located in the heart of Ari Atoll, its lagoon suffers from erosion, especially on its eastern side. The lagoon is nevertheless very pleasant, neither too big nor too small, which makes the reef easily accessible from the very nice beach. Machchafushi is occupied by the Centara Grand Island resort which is owned by a Thai group. They have achieved a very good example of everything you can fit on a small island: a marina, two swimming pools, a tennis court, restaurants and bars, spa and of course villas.
