Helengeli is located at the northern tip of the North Malé Atoll. In Dhivehi, its name means "trembling reef island". It is long and stretches in a north-east-south-west orientation. It is 800 meters long and barely 60 meters wide. At the southeastern tip, it ends in a large sandy tongue that winds into the lagoon at low tide. The island has succeeded in preserving its abundant nature. It was one of the first to be developed and has been home to a resort since 1979. Most of the guests, especially Germans and Swiss, come to Helengeli to dive. The coral reef is very close by and can be reached by swimming.
