Fari Islands is a hotel development project led by the Singaporean group Pontiac. The company has created 4 artificial islands out of a virginal lagoon situated in the north-east of the atoll. It is the second real estate project of this type in the Maldives, after The Crossroads, a complex mixing shopping mall and hotels on South Malé. The vast lagoon of Fari, nearly 10 kilometres long, is now home to 4 islands. Three of them are for luxury hotels and the last one is for the staff working on these islands. The northernmost island is home to the Patina Hotel, which will open in May 2021, and the Fari Marina Village, which includes a marina, beach club, restaurants and shops. Fari Marina Village is also the first place in the Maldives to host a contemporary art gallery. The concept of this village seems to be inspired by the very select destinations of the Mediterranean such as Porto Cervo in Sardinia or Saint-Tropez in France. To the west, the Capella luxury hotel is scheduled to open in 2023. The development work has been delayed due to Covid. The south-east of the lagoon is reserved for the Ritz-Carlton, which is opening its first Maldivian hotel here. At the very south, the Fari Campus is the island reserved for the staff and includes beaches, sports grounds and accommodation. The design of each island has been entrusted to different internationally renowned architectural firms, the idea being to surprise the most jaded clientele again and again.
