This beautiful little municipality, like its neighbor Tlaquepaque, has been overtaken by the accelerated urbanization of Guadalajara. Home to a myriad of artistic projects, it is known for its handcrafted glass, ceramic and wrought iron stores, which can be found at the market every Thursday and Sunday along Tonaltecas Avenue. From the center of Guadalajara, you can hop on the 231 or 275 bus ($9.50) or the ones marked with the "Tonala" sign, which are a little more pleasant because they have air conditioning ($15). You can also take a cab for about $150.
