Located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Akumal was made famous by the discovery of a Spanish galleon, the Nuestra Señora de los Milagros, which did not prove to be very generous to the crew, as it was sunk in front of the reef in 1741. The tourist part of Akumal stretches along long white sandy beaches, lined with palm trees and coconut palms, facing the coral reef. The VIPs here are the turtles, which can be observed with a simple mask at less than 100 m from the beach; it is the main attraction of the corner. At the end of the path leading to the residential area is a nice lagoon, which is pleasant for swimming
