The museum features a permanent exhibition on the history of the Franco-Chinese Institute, the first and only Chinese university created outside China. It also presents temporary exhibitions of contemporary Chinese and French art. The Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois has become a major player in relations between France and China, promoting economic, academic, cultural and tourist exchanges. In addition to its museum, it organizes events throughout the year in connection with Lyon's culture.

L' espace, très bien repensé, rénové et réagencé, retrace de manière permanente, les relations entretenues entre Lyon et la Chine, via les étudiants chinois qui y ont été envoyés dès 1921.
Il offre aussi, lors d' expositions temporaires, la possibilité de découvrir le travail innovant de jeunes artistes chinois de talent, tels Li Xin à l' automne 2017 et même de dialoguer avec eux.
