LYON MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

Petit Futé's opinion on LYON MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

Occupying a whole section of the Place des Terreaux, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon imposes itself by its size, but also by its content, since it is - after the Louvre - the second largest collection of works of art in France. But the "size" of this museum is certainly not overwhelming, and each visitor can discover its impressive collections at his or her own pace, thanks in particular to the use of digital tablets that allow everyone to discover the works depending on his or her desires. In this superb renewed 17th century building - the Palais Saint-Pierre - a journey through time is proposed, from ancient Egypt to modern art through paintings, of course, but also art objects - pottery, earthenware... - and sculptures. Lyon's painters obviously occupy a special place. There are many ways to visit the museum from particular angles, from the "1 hour" visit to the "Art History" cycles in order to deepen your knowledge, there are even quick 30-minute visits around a work at lunchtime. We love it. Another highlight is the night visits. As for the children, they follow in the footsteps of the museum's Bestiary...
