The aqueducts are remarkable infrastructures that supplied the ancient city with water from the heights of Fourvière.
The Roman aqueducts of Lyon and the Lyon region constitute an astonishing and all too often forgotten heritage (but supported by the Heritage Lottery...). Built in the 1st century AD, there are four of them that supplied the ancient city with water from the heights of Fourvière. The 27 km long Yzeron aqueduct was probably the first of Lyon's aqueducts. There are still some interesting remains of the aqueduct of Brevenne and the aqueduct of Gier with 136 buildings still visible. Marked out walking sites make it possible, particularly in Chaponost or Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, to discover this heritage while walking.
