Incredible collection of Roman artifacts, both in terms of quantity and state of preservation. I wish I’d taken more photos.

Grand odéon, avec voie romaine d'époque. Un site magnifique en plein milieu d'une ville. Un beau site.
Le théâtre est gratuit.

Un musée toujours très intéressant.

Une exposition temporaire "un empire des peuples" bien traitée et terriblement d'actualité.

Building’s structure is interesting

L'exposition temporaire est top !
Par contre le musée devrait marquer qu'il ferme à 17h45 et non à 18h, car dès 17h40, nous étions suivis de près par le personnel qui parlaient très fort pour nous faire descendre, pour qu'au final une personne à la sortie nous informe de manière désagréable qu'il fallait tout remonter pour sortir. Une fois dans l'ascenseur le personnel est revenu nous voir de manière pressante pour nous redire encore une fois d'aller au cinquième. Visiblement l'ascenseur n'allait pas assez vite à leur goût. 17h50 nous étions dehors, top chrono. C'est dommage pour un musée aussi intéressant de frustrer les visiteurs qui pensent pouvoir profiter jusqu'à la fermeture.

Lugdunum wollten wir unbedingt besichtigt...dieser Ort war immer ein tolles Ziel aber Achtung: Ganz gefährliche Gegend,während des Besuchs in der Nähe wurde unser Fahrzeug ausgeraubt!
Ich empfehle Lyon NICHT für Touristen! Gehen sie lieber nicht in diese Stadt! Passen Sie auf sich auf! alles gute für sie und viel Glück wenn sie diesen Ort besichtigen!

Museo bellissimo che conserva moltissimi reperti romani, gallo-romani e anche precedenti. Notevole il calendario di Coligny, l’unica calendario celtico giunto fino a noi.

Nous sommes venus en séjour sur Lyon et nous avons découvert ce musée !
Nous avons payé neuf euros pour trois ! C’est un musée incroyable. Nous nous attendons pas à ça !
Si nous revenons sur Lyon, c’est sûr que nous le referons !
Et je n’oublie pas aussi l’accueil qui était parfait, le monsieur était très gentil !

Super endroit pour découvrir des objets et mosaïque romaine

Il Museo gallo-romano di Fourvière, situato sulla collina di Fourvière a Lione, è uno dei più importanti musei archeologici di Francia. Aperto nel 1975, si trova accanto ai resti dell’antica città romana di Lugdunum, l’antico nome di Lione, e offre un’immersione nella storia di questa importante colonia dell’Impero Romano.

L’architettura del museo è perfettamente integrata nella collina, con un design moderno in cemento armato che si sviluppa su diversi livelli. Questa disposizione consente di esplorare la collezione seguendo un percorso fluido, mentre ampie finestre offrono una vista suggestiva sul vicino teatro romano e sull’odéon, i due principali monumenti archeologici del sito.

La collezione del museo comprende una vasta gamma di reperti che testimoniano la vita quotidiana, religiosa e politica di Lugdunum. Tra i pezzi più significativi si trovano mosaici, sculture, iscrizioni, monete e oggetti di uso quotidiano. Spiccano il mosaico del circo, che rappresenta una scena di corsa di carri, e l’altare dedicato a Roma e ad Augusto, simbolo del potere imperiale. Particolarmente affascinante è la tavola di bronzo con il discorso dell’imperatore Claudio, originario di Lione, che testimonia l’importanza politica della città in epoca romana.

Il museo dedica ampio spazio anche alla religiosità e alla mitologia del mondo gallo-romano, con reperti che illustrano il sincretismo tra le divinità locali e quelle del pantheon romano. L’adiacente teatro romano, risalente al I secolo a.C., è uno dei più antichi della Gallia e ancora oggi viene utilizzato per eventi culturali, come il festival estivo Nuits de Fourvière. Questo collegamento diretto tra il museo e il sito archeologico offre ai visitatori un’esperienza completa della Lione antica.

Il est souhaitable que vous ayez du temps devant vous car ce musée est grand.
L'équipe à l'accueil est souriante et vous explique le déroulé du circuit à effectuer.
Si vous avez des enfants en bas âge, ils pourront tout au long du parcours s'amuser car il y a des petites animations à découvrir .
Le seul bémol est le bruit car un certain public se sent seul au monde en visitant ce lieu et pense que '' Raymond et Ginette ont bien fait de ne pas venir parce que avec tous ces gosses qui courent partout ils seraient tombés ''.

Très beau à visiter absolument et qui de plus gratuit de nos jours cela ce fait rare

I was more that pleasantly surprised by the completeness of this big museum and the quality of both the presentations and documentation. The one in Vienne is a little more spectacular, but the one in Lyon is under appreciated big time.

Musée adapté aux enfants et très instructif

Interessantes Museum in einem interessanten Gebäude. Leider war das Theater gesperrt aber auch das Museum lohnt sich für einen Besuch. Es wird interaktiv in einem durchdachten Rundgang alles zu der römischen Geschichte an dem Ort des heutigen Lyons erklärt und schön gezeigt. Am ersten Sonntag des Monats ist der Eintritt zudem kostenfrei.

You can visit the grounds for free seperate from visiting the museum. It is great to wander through Lugdunum, and despite it being questionable how open the site is for the sake of preservation, it was enjoyable to walk amongst/on the ruins largely unrestricted.

Great historic monument held down in its natural state for generations to come! The histories and the interesting stories make it memorable! This is a great monument of theatre where one can visit to learn more about such area captured under the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lyon.

Bel museo, organizzato bene. Peccato che molte didascalie siano solo in lingua francese.

Nous avons vu l exposition lego qui était vraiment super! En revanche, la météo ne nous a pas permis d'apprécier pleinement les extérieurs et pour la visite intérieure, beaucoup de choses casées, manque d activités ludiques... pas terrible pour les enfants.

I loved this museum! But I have a fascination of the ancient Romans, and how they built their civilization. If this is not your thing, then you should not put it on your must see list. If it is your thing, then I think you will consider this time well spent.

It is a treasure trove of ancient artifacts that are smartly organized by different subjects such as commerce, architecture, the trades, honorary monuments of gifts bestowed by wealthy citizens, and headstones of people from all walks of life. There is also a special exhibit at the bottom of the museum that takes the lives of four people and through both historical evidence and a little imagination helps you to better understand the culture and way of lives of these representative people who lived in Lyon but some of them came from different parts of the Empire.

Also, as others have explained much better than me, the architecture and ingenuity of the design of this museum is definitely worthwhile as well. I had read a little about it before my visit but to see how grand and structurally creative this museum is could not be truly appreciated until seen in person.
