Built in the 1st and 2nd centuries, the aqueduct is 75 km long and crosses 23 communes, including 12 in the Rhône. But it is in Chaponost that the remains of the aqueduct are the most remarkable. The most impressive ruins are undoubtedly the succession of 72 arches over 550 metres, which can be seen from the road at Plat de l'Air. The facing which covers it, made up of small square-faced stones, is unique in its kind. Also worth visiting are the sites of Guichardet and Gagère. Guided tours all year round on prior reservation (ask at the Tourist Office).
