Visit the Barthélémy-Thimonnier museum in Amplepuis, featuring a succession of temporary exhibitions.

The town pays tribute to Barthélemy Thimonnier, born in L'Arbresle in 1793 and inventor of the sewing machine. He died in Amplepuis in poverty, hated by textile workers convinced that his invention would reduce them to unemployment. Over 800m2 of exhibition space, visitors can discover the first sewing machines and travel through history right up to "sewing computers". The museum also traces the history of the cycle. Temporary exhibitions are held throughout the year.

Superbe musée à visiter. Un grand nombre de machines à coudre anciennes et de cycles. Des personnes passionnées pour répondre à vos questions et tout celà dans un magnifique bâtiment (église). Une projection vidéo sur l'histoire de Mr Thimonnier. Le plus, une salle d'exposition provisoire. Il y a même une boutique pour ceux qui voudraient ramener un souvenir. Foncez si vous êtes dans le coin. Ça vaut le coup d'oeil. J'ai mis environ une heure à visiter en prenant le temps de bien tout regarder.
