DISTILLERIE MANGUIN
In the 1940s, Claude Manguin, a talented agronomist, planted dozens of hectares of pear and peach trees. He cultivated exceptional fruits sold in fine grocery stores. The Maison Manguin, created on this site, has been expressing its know-how and passion for fruit brandies since 1957, in the green setting of Barthelasse Island. Béatrice and Emmanuel Hanquiez took over the distillery in 2011. The distillery is located on the Rhône between the Palais des Papes and the Chartreuse de Villeneuve-les-Avignon, on a terroir of sand and silt, ideal for growing fruit such as pears. In the 1,000-bottle orchard, from May to July, you can discover pears trapped in bottles hanging from the branches. The distillery's most famous products are Williams pear brandies, as well as other fruits such as olives, with Oli'Gin, a distilled olive, and Oli'Vodka, a new product. Citrus liqueurs based on Corsican clementine and bergamot lemon are also available. The range of spirits produced by this family-run distillery extends from liqueurs de Provence and crèmes de fruits to apéritifs, pastis, vieille prune and vieille reine-claude. Caraxès is the distillery's flagship product, a blend of rum and pear brandy. During the hour-long tour, you'll discover the workshops and receive full explanations of the production stages and methods. A tasting session is offered at the end.
