VANILLE NOIRE

Glacier
5/5
1 review

With two locations in the Panier district, the Vanille Noire ice cream parlour has been a sensation in Marseille for some years now. With its original creations (Beyrouth night, incredible), creaminess and genuine originality, we highly recommend a stopover. The value for money is excellent, and the ice creams and sorbets are handcrafted with passion. An adventure that began during a trip to New York for the creator of Vanille Noire, and continued in Marseille, much to our delight!

LA MAISON DU PASTIS

Liquor store

After soap, if there is one thing associated with the Phocian city, it is pastis! This famous aniseed-flavoured drink, made up of many other secret ingredients, is an ideal gift to take home with you. In this small shop, you will find nearly a hundred pastis and absinthes... and all the delicatessen to make a success of your kemia with Marseille sauce. You should know that the house sells its own pastis (which matures after five months): all you have to do is choose your bottle and one of the home-made pastis (after tasting)!

LE GLACIER DU ROI

Glacier
3.5/5
6 reviews

With two locations in Marseille, including the historic Panier, Glacier du Roi has built up a fine reputation over the years. With its production laboratory visible from the store, the emphasis is on the artisanal side of production, with inspiring flavours: turnip, apricot verbena, mango... Sorbets and ice creams are available in scoops and cups, as well as in large quantities with containers so you can take them home with you. The only snag, and not the least, is that the prices are not cheap, being higher than those of other artisanal producers in Marseille. And yet there's an explosion of flavors in these ice creams, which lack a little taste. As for the addition of Chantilly cream, billed at two euros, not to mention the plastic cups which, while attractive, are thrown away once the scoop is finished, it's all a bit clumsy and not too up to date ecologically speaking on the last point. A great success thanks to its location and the many tourists in the area.

LES NAVETTES DES ACCOULES

Make way for the navette, this pretty little crunchy cookie in the shape of a boat and with the delicate flavors of orange blossom. Traditionally eaten at Candlemas, these cookies are made all year round in this bakery below the Panier. Let yourself be bewitched by the smell when you enter the store. Everything is exposed there under your eyes, shuttles, croquants, canistrellis, macaroons... Freshness and authenticity. The master of the place, José Orsoni, is a figure of the district.

SUPER CAFOUTCH

Specialized grocery

Super Cafoutch is the cooperative supermarket from Mars. Cafoutch is a small storage room where you can put everything and anything. From the Marseilles expression, the association develops a consumer cooperative. To consume yes, but differently: quality products, local and accessible for all. The model is inspired by the Park Slope Food Coop created in 1973 in New York. To consume, you have to be a member; the cooperators each hold one or more shares in the supermarket and decide together. It is also a participatory supermarket: each cooperator devotes three hours per month to various tasks such as cashiering, stocking shelves, ordering, etc. The project is also social: finding everything at Super Cafoutch and cheaper than elsewhere, consuming locally and responsibly (99% organic and local products). The baskets are prepared under our eyes, we exchange, we discuss, we share. Meetings are organized once a month: find the dates in the agenda on the website. The cooperative hopes to find a place very soon in the city center. A great idea!

LA CAVE DE LA JOLIETTE

Caviste

Semi-finalist in the 2016 Best Cellarman competition organised by the French Cellarman's Union, Alexandre Pichon selects for you the best wines from France and elsewhere. He favours wines from small producers at affordable prices, but also offers a few rarities, which are highly prized. As for champagnes, a stratospheric selection, from small producers to great vintages. There is a very good selection of spirits, including about 70 references of rums and about fifty whiskies. Alexandre also offers about forty references of beers!

Ö GÂTÉ PÂTISSERIE

Patisserie

At Populo, the new food court in La Joliette, sweet tooths won't have missed the tempting corner by Martin Flecher, a talented pastry chef if ever there was one. A beautiful display of tarts, strawberry tarts, lemon tarts and choux pastries. Already visually stunning, they're a delight in terms of taste and balance. We tasted the tart lemon tart and the praline flan, both perfect. The flan is also available in plain, praline or chocolate. Enthusiasts will be delighted. Whole cakes can be ordered.

FROMAGERIE LA MEULERIE

Regional grocery cheese and cream shops

La Meulerie is much more than just another cheese shop, as the critics might say. For one thing, its location at the gateway to the Panier district makes it special, as the area was really lacking in gourmet addresses of this kind. La Meulerie also boasts some of the coolest visuals and communication you've ever seen for a cheese shop. And it's all thanks to the two founders, Driss and Arthur, who breathe a breath of fresh air into the business. In the boutique, you'll find a wide selection of cheeses, from all types of pastes and all origins. In winter, a fine selection of seasonal raclettes. Finally, a delivery service for aperitif and raclette trays in less than an hour in Marseille.

After discovering the small lab on rue Sainte, we fell under the charm of the beautiful pastry shop - tea room opened on place Daviel, between Hôtel-Dieu and montée des Accoules. An elegant facade and a few tables, a modern interior that highlights sweet and savory creations. Gluten-free and lactose-free, sometimes vegan but always 100% organic. It is aesthetically beautiful and gustatively good. A good nose to the preconceived ideas about alternative pastries. New tea room for 2023: 122 rue Sainte, opposite the lab, what a success, bravo!
