Created in 1857, Alcazar was in the beginning a concert hall who could accommodate 2,000 people and who saw occurring a bunch of artists of which Yves Montand, Fernandel and Jacques Brel. Since 2004, it became the most famous library of Marseille and one of largest of France! In its shelves, more than 350,000 volumes, newspapers, CD, DVD, and funds rare, distributed on four levels and a surface open to the public of 11,000 m ². Alive cultural place, of the cultural events are regularly organized there. The monument is to be visited as well for its exterior architecture, recognizable by its red entrance gate orange surmounted of an iron bed marchioness, as for its bathed interior of light, to the forefront of modernity. Established in one of the most popular neighborhoods of Marseille (Belsunce), Alcazar is a symbol which shows that the culture can be accessible to all! This library is part of network BMVR of Marseille as well as the establishments of Bonneveine, of Whiting, the Cainq-Avenues, Grognarde, Saint André, the Basket and Castellane.
