Etienne Pellot-Montvieux's portrait on a stele at the traffic circle in rue de Belcénia

Every year, Hendaye celebrates Étienne Pellot-Montvieux, whose portrait is enthroned on a stele at the roundabout in the rue de Belcénia. It is a reminder of the life of this privateer whom Captain Duvoisin met. Fascinated by this life, he retraced its main lines in a book, Le dernier des corsaires, the life of Étienne Pellot-Montvieux d'Hendaye, an adventure that earned him a late recognition, including this famous stele. Every year, it's the Tamborada to the sound of drums.
