The much-talked-about Hendaye Cyclic Cross sits beside the church at the foot of the Pyrenees on the border between France and Spain. It took the arrival of a book in the 19th century, Le Mystère des cathédrales, by a certain Fulcanelli, to bring it into the limelight. This French alchemist discovered an irregularly shaped "S" at the end of the 1st line, said to symbolize a fire-breathing dragon, another reference to which can be found on the base.
