Located near Nantes, Le Bignon was part of the Pictons territory. A community of Celts settled here before the Gallo-Roman era; the village was then posted on the Roman road between Nantes and Montaigu. The parish was founded in the 6th century, and the first castles followed, first made of wood and then of stone. Le Bignon has many lordships, but the most important is undoubtedly that of Touffou, long owned by the Dukes of Brittany, who enjoyed hunting in a forest at a time of particularly wild game. Let us also note the abbey of Villeneuve, whose income is significant. The abbey was founded in 1201 by the widow of Geoffroy II, Duke of Brittany. Villeneuve's power grew until 1677. The Revolution arrived, and the whole abbey, with its lands, was sold, before being taken by the chouans who transformed it into a military camp. There too, repression is taking place.
