Basilica St. SerninNext to the Place du Capitole square a magnificent basilica that you reach by browsing the lovely rue du Taur. Saint-Sernin Basilica contains several elements of the Romanesque period and the Gothic period: It has been built by horse over several centuries and has a specific architecture. In fact everything dates back to the third century, with the first bishop of Toulouse, Saint Saturnin. Having provoked the anger of the pagan natives, because of the lack of effective sacrifices, he was attached to a bull. The animal came out, furious, by the northern door of the city. The holy man, who was not used to the practice of rodeo, didn't shoot. Two women, called Holy Puelles, inhumèrent his body at the precise place of his fall, and a small church was built on his tomb, Notre-Dame-du-Taur. It is always present in the street of the same name. The primitive building no longer meets the importance acquired by the abbey in the th century and its role as a stage on the roads of Santiago de Compostela. The construction of a basilica was decided a little farther north, where the relics of Saint Saturnin were installed. The building was completed over the centuries, until the appearance of the bedside in the th century, and we can see today the tomb, sheltered behind the gates. Renovated, fully lit, Saint-Sernin Basilica remains one of the most beautiful monuments in Toulouse. She'illuminates the evening of a coral flower that the sun water! '»»»»
