This charming small town located on the Franco-German border has a responsible past: it was the seat of a bloody battle on 6 August 1870, which was decisive during the Franco-Prussian war. There are many monuments and cemeteries that bear witness to this battle, and every year, on that date, a revival of nature is organised by French and German associations. Spicheren is a dynamic municipality, with many shops worthy of a small town. Its situation between Forbach and Saarbrücken in Germany makes it a residential municipality ideal for families. The village is surrounded by many forests, which will satisfy the lovers of walks. Many associations live in the village. Finally, its name comes from the Latin spicarium which means "granary", hence the presence of two ears of wheat on the blason of the commune.
