Rembercourt-Sommaisne, literally where the Aisne river has its source, includes the communes of Rembercourt-aux-Pots in the south and Sommaisne in the north. During the Great War, on 8 September 1914, the village was bombed by German artillery. The church was burnt down and suffered severe damage. Restoration work was completed in 1935 and restored it to its former glory. In the spring of 1943, Aragon quotes the village in one of his poems: The Conscript of the Hundred Villages.
