A must-see in the northern Meuse region, Marville is a delight for those who like to wander from street to street, soaking up the culture. Its history began when the powerful Thiébaud I of Lorraine (1191-1214) seized the territory and built a fortress. Its heyday came during the Renaissance, when the city enjoyed neutrality while a conflict raged between the counties of Bar and Luxembourg. Associated with Charles V, Marville attracted the Iberian affluent, to whom it owed its fine Spanish-style mansions. Today, Marville boasts a rich heritage: the houses of the Drapiers and Chevalier Michel, Hôtel d'Egremont, Saint-Nicolas church, cellars, etc.
