During the First World War, the village of Thiaucourt was occupied for 4 years by the German armies, as was the town of Saint-Mihiel, 30 kilometers away. This disastrous period had already left its mark on the landscape and its inhabitants, but it was in September 1918, during the Battle of the Saillant de Saint-Mihiel, that the village was largely destroyed, while the neighboring village of Regniéville was completely wiped out. Its name has been added to that of Thiaucourt to ensure that it is not forgotten for ever. Today, two large American and German cemeteries bear witness to this period.
