Sainte-Dove-sur-L'Hers is a small municipality of Quercorb with approximately 500 inhabitants. Located a few kilometres south-east of Chalabre, St. Dove is already mentioned in the written sources from the beginning of the th century. The archives also teach us that this village remained faithful to the Catholic Church throughout its history from the th to the th century. The Lord of the place, Pierre-Raymond du Puy, is known to have responded to the call of Pope Urban II during the first crusade in the Holy Land, to which he participated with three of his brothers and his father, under the orders of the Earl of Toulouse Raymond of Saint Gilles. Pierre-Raymond du Puy remains alongside the Earl of 1096 until he died in 1105, before returning to his land. Although located in the heart of Cathar country, the village remained Catholic, with no resistance to Simon de Montfort troops during the Crusade against the Albigensians in the th century. During the last few years of the th century, the medieval castle is replaced by a stately castle, a stately and comfortable residence protected by four towers, surrounded by a water-filled ditch and accessed by two drawbridge. Today there are only a few remnants of this fortress, particularly those of the south-east tower. In the th century, the population of the village also did not participate in the conflict between Catholics and Protestants and caused violent fighting in the vicinity. From its history, Saint Colombe has also kept a church dedicated to the Virgin, Notre-Dame de Sainte-Dove, a beautiful monument of this charming village where you will enjoy staying. Sainte-Dove on Hers is the ideal starting point for the discovery of the Quercorb and the Upper Aude Valley.
