In the foothills of the Aude Pyrenees, the Pays de Sault - from the Latin saltus (forest) - is a vast plateau at an altitude of 1,000 metres, bordered by immense fir forests and home to a thousand and one pastures. As its inhabitants like to say, it's "a country on a plateau". The view is far-reaching. In Belcaire are the ruins of the ancient château de guerre, which was the seat of the royal administration of the Pays de Sault in 1252. It's also a land of history and breathtaking scenery... or more precisely, breathtaking scenery! The spring-fed lake, surrounded by mountains, is ideal for walks and hikes!
