In the th century, Valay was an important metallurgical place. 40 000 tonnes of iron per year are produced at its peak. The old forges, now closed, are installed on the remains of the old castle which only preserved the ruins of its towers. The old manor house of the th century now houses the town hall, school and post. Very nice stopover at the Old Relais.
