For a long time, this village was crossed by an important railway line. It stands out for its exceptional archaeological wealth. Known worldwide thanks to its rock shelter of Rochedane which revealed treasures today exposed in the museums of Besançon and Montbéliard: 77 engraved pebbles and 122 painted pebbles dated between 11 000 and 9500 years. There is also furniture from the Magdalenian period and a Mesolithic engraving. It is also said that this shelter was the refuge of the Fairy Arie and her donkey Marion. Much less cheerful, Pont-de-roide is the home of Jules Bonnot, an anarchist whose famous gang distinguished itself by murders and robberies.
