Located just a stone's throw from Sarlat-la-Canéda (Dordogne), on the Route des Tissanderies, Distillerie de la Salamandre perpetuates traditional know-how in the spirits industry. Since the 1960s, this family-run business has been processing fruit from the South-West and Périgord regions using traditional steam distillation methods. It produces eaux-de-vie, liqueurs and aperitifs from rigorously selected fresh fruit. Several of its creations have won awards at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris. The establishment offers a wide range of products made using traditional methods. A visit to the premises reveals a world shaped by the commitment of a family and the continuity of know-how handed down from generation to generation. Among the specialties available are an organic walnut wine, an old plum aged in barrels for over twenty years, and original liqueurs with verbena or chestnut. These products bear witness to the distillery's local roots and the diversity of regional traditions. The La Salamandre Single Malt whisky, which also won an award at the Paris competition, reflects the distillery's move towards more contemporary creations, without compromising on production methods. The range also includes fruit liqueurs: clementines in armagnac, mirabelles in brandy, old-fashioned pears and Morello cherries, prepared according to traditional recipes. A free tour of the workshops and cellars is available, followed by a tasting in the boutique. Guided tours are also available by appointment for groups. Open to enthusiasts and curious visitors alike, the distillery is a popular stop-off point for discovering the richness of locally-produced, artisanal spirits.
