Mareuil-le-Port is a wine-growing commune in the Marne valley with nearly 400 hectares of vineyards, mostly planted with pinot meunier, a variety that alone represents 300 hectares. Like many villages in the valley, the commune's Romanesque church dates from the 12th century, but it is worth a visit to admire its twisted or flamed bell tower, one of the 68 in France, which has a very particular shape with its spiral spire covered with slate. Classified as a historical monument since 1892, the church also has remains of 16th century stained glass windows and a paving stone made of glazed tiles covered with drawings and inscriptions.
