At the other end of the Roman bridge, it is the oldest defensive tower in the city, built by the Muslims, it was restored in 1369 by Enrique II to counter the consecutive attacks of his brother Pedro I, Le Cruel. It houses a museum that tells the ecumenical history of Córdoba. In particular through a very interesting audiovisual projection, broadcast several times a day. Beautiful views of the Roman bridge and the Mezquita from the top of this tower.

The red ochre silhouette of this fortress, built in the 10th and 11th centuries and enlarged during the Nazari period, is noteworthy. But it is also remarkable for its location as a viewpoint from the walls, which allows you to observe the cave district on one side and the rest of the city on the other. Long closed, it should be accessible again in 2019 via a footbridge.

In a small park near the San Jorge church, this small Roman-roofed Roman fountain would have provided water for the voyage of mariners because it was right next to the wharf from where the three caravans left. Because at that time, the water came to Palos. The University of Huelva is currently working on the route of this old port.

About 2 km north of the historic center (city bus # 6), this white chapel houses a lovely painting representing the Virgin, patron of the city; it also presents earthenware (made by Daniel Zuloaga) directing Christopher Columbus' visit to the sanctuary, as well as muobar portals. From there, the view of the city, the Odiel and its swamps is impregnable. We'll also love to walk in his beautiful gardens.

It contains two main sections: archeology on the ground floor and fine arts on the first floor. The first is mainly devoted to the tartessional and Roman eras, which are very much provided thanks to the region's rich past in this area. It includes objects from the necropolis «La Joya», one of the largest ensembles of lavish art in Andalusian protohistory, considered as the most important of the Mediterranean region. Other discoveries during the visit: objects of Phoenician and Greek origin discovered in Huelva. Museum very didactic over these periods, excavations and evolution of tools and practices. On the first floor, the Fine Arts section houses a fund from xiiith to twentieth century and temporary exhibitions.

During the visit of the Rock, a stop will be made to the Singes Den des Singes (Ape's Den or Ravin des Singes) to greet magots, macaques macaques brought by the Moors in the th century. The only monkeys in Europe living in freedom, and perhaps the oldest residents of Gibraltar, are behind a popular proverb that predicts the end of the British concession on the day the primates disappear from the Rock. Some are however chapardeurs and/or aggressive.

RUTA FERNANDINA

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

This "fernandina" church route owes its name to the reign of Fernando III. This reign marked the beginning of the Christian reconquest of the city from 1236, although the churches were built in the following years, mainly during the reign of his son, Alfonso X, el sabio. Beginning with Cordoba Cathedral, this itinerary brings together eleven churches. All follow an architectural model combining Romanesque, Gothic and Mudejar aesthetics. A map will be provided to help you locate them in the city.

GARDENS OF THE TORRE DON FADRIQUE

Parks and gardens

You enter by an old wooden door: a path leads you to the oldest gardens in the city planted with orange trees, jasmine, olive trees, acanthuses and oleanders. In the middle of the tower (torre) is Don Fadrique. The space is quite limited, but the place is charming, strolling or read in the shade on a bench. These gardens, unknown to the general public, are the only relic of the buildings, grounds and gardens of Palacio del Infante Don Fadrique, given by Sancho IV to the foundation of the convent of Clarisses (Convento Santa Clara). In 1920, the city council decided to dig until the base of the tour: hence this space below surrounded by myrtles where shows are often organised.

PALACIO DE LA ADUANA

Palaces to visit

At the foot of the Alcazaba, this Palacio de la Aduana (Customs Palace), projected in 1788 and finished in 1826, is a neo-classical building constructed in the way of the Italian Renaissance palaces with four spans around a central patio surrounded by portico. A former headquarters of the Royal Tobacco Factory and sub-delegation of the provincial government, since late December 2015, he has welcomed the last large pinacothe opened in Malaga after a renovation of the premises through an investment of € 40 million from the state. And now its 18,000 m 2 present collections from two institutions in Malaga, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Provincial Archeology. As such, it becomes one of the first 15 museums in Spain and the largest in Andalusia. The site offers visitors a vast pictorial collection of 2,000 works made in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with one of the best collections of Spanish paintings of the nineteenth century and works by Sorolla, Carlos de Haes, Federico Madrazo, Esquivel, Vicente López Portaña or Ramón Casas. There are also a number of paintings made by the Malaga school, including those of the most famous members: Moreno Carbonero, Enrique Simonet, Muñoz Degrain, José Nogales or Bernardo Ferrándiz. As well as a collection of Spanish modern art until the 1950 s, with works by Rafael Canogar, Juan Barjola, Óscar Domínguez or Josep Guinovart.

In the archeological fund, the place has over 15,000 pieces covering a period from the viiith century BC to the medieval period, and will be able to admire many pieces from excavations carried out by the University of Malaga in recent years. As examples, there are two particularly impressive pieces: the grave of a warrior, dated from the life of the century BC and found intact in the historic center of the city in 2012, or a mosaic representing the birth of Venus and found in the municipality of Cártama in the 1950 s.
