ÉGLISE SAINTE-EUGÉNIE

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels
4.7/5
3 reviews
Closed - Open to 10h00

This church was built in 1859 thanks to the personal funding of Napoleon III. She has the first name of his wife. The exterior of the church is harmonious, in the image of the village, and its appearance is typical of a country church. Its ochre color breaks with the other places of worship in the region, allowing it to be distinguished without problems. The porch is overcrowded with a square bell, which is built. Inside, the nef is rectangular and ends with an abside in the oven. The stained glass windows were created by the master rod Lorin and installed in 1909. For the anecdote, note that the emperor often resided in Villeneuve-l 'Étang, where Pasteur then installed his laboratory.

Closed - Open to 10h00

In this impasse, at the end of this small briard village, the birthplace of the great inventor reveals the objects relating to his life and work. Born on January 4, 1809 in this small briarde house, Louis Braille invented the alphabet that bears his name, a writing and reading system for the blind. As a victim of tuberculosis, he died in 1852. His remains will be transferred to the Pantheon on 21 June 1952, on the occasion of the 100 th anniversary of his death, the year of the opening of the museum. Blind since the age of three, Louis Braille enters the Blind Institute seven years later. Later, he became a professor and developed a reading system from 1825, composing books to facilitate his teaching. Writing in relief that reads easily to touch, it is used worldwide. On the floor of the house, a library brings together many old books, some of which are in braille. Access disabled.

MUSÉE DE L’ASSISTANCE PUBLIQUE - HÔPITAUX DE PARIS

Specialized museum
1/5
1 review

The main stages of the history of the Parisian hospitals are detailed in this museum found in the Miramion hotel (seventeenth century), beautiful building which was once a hospital for the poor, then the headquarters of the Central Pharmacy. The collections consist of pieces of great variety (paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, furniture, processed, medical instruments ...), the oldest dates back to the Middle Ages. They include the "Livre de Vie active", an illuminated manuscript of the late fifteenth century, and a nice set of pharmaceutical jars made of earthenware. A highlight of the tour is passing through the garden of medicinal plants, which is organized in the medieval manner. One can discover about sixty varieties. Unfortunately, the place just closed. The hotel Miramion was sold and normally no one can occupy the premises. The museum should thus reopen within two years in a new place.

MUSÉE DES TRANSPORTS URBAINS DE FRANCE

Specialized museum
4.7/5
25 reviews

This atypical and quite exceptional museum has finally been reopened after many adventures and regional establishments! It is the result of the work since 1957 of a few enthusiasts grouped together in the Association for the Museum of Urban, Interurban and Rural Transport (AMTUIR), saddened at the time by the scheduled abolition of tram networks (the current development of the tram in many cities of the country will have proven them right). The work has been long to buy, recover and repair trams, Paris metropolitan railway cars, trolleybuses, buses, coaches and operating equipment, complemented by scale models, models, documents, videos, and images from the past. For several decades AMTUIR also had difficulty finding a site to house the museum and serve as a repository for engines and bulky parts... Malakoff, Saint-Mandé, Colombes followed one another until the decision of the city of Chelles to definitively promote the place. The large hall that houses most of the exhibition is not heated, so this museum is only open on sunny days, only one Saturday per month: watch for the opening dates on the association's website and schedule a full day for the visit accordingly.... You will not be disappointed.

His neo-Gothic form may suggest that it dates from the Middle Ages. In fact, the Church Saint-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile was built in the 1850 s. It is the work of the architect Louis-Auguste Boileau, who used materials such as iron and iron for building the building. The interior is rich in stained glass windows - by Antoine Lusson and Eugène Oudinot from Gérard Séguin's boxes - and in chandeliers.

ARMENIAN PAPER

2 reviews

The Armenian Paper production site has been located in Montrouge for more than 120 years. After a major year of closure, due to a fire at the beginning of 2017, the site resumed its activity in June 2018. But her visit remains a great moment: she lets you discover the manufacturing workshops and craft techniques that are still in use. It was during a trip to the Ottoman Empire in 1888 that Auguste Ponsot discovered in Armenia that the inhabitants perfumed their houses by burning benzoin, the resin of a tree. Back in France, he developed this famous Papier d'Arménie with the pharmacist Henri Rivier. The principle: blotting paper is soaked with a solution composed of benzoin, from the styrax benzoin tree, and various herbs. Then, it's up to you to enjoy this very special scent, recognizable among all, and which has many followers!

Closed - Open to 09h00

At the end of a vast rehabilitation and development project, the English park offers a superb space of nearly 20 ha of walking with a wide variety of species (giant redwood, Atlas blue cedar) and 300 m of French perspective. The artist Xavier Veilhan, the architects Bona and Lemercier and the scenographer Alexis Bertrand have realized an exceptional and exciting project. The development of clearings now makes it possible to host various events on the art of gardens, as well as the trophy room and the Turkish baths, which become exhibition rooms. The castle museum is the highlight of this work! With its facades covered with ice and metalized panels, it enhances the park and fascinates visitors, especially on sunny days when it contrasts remarkably with the green spaces, bodies of water and the blue sky around it. Inside, the exhibitions on offer are often very original. An access to its panoramic roof allows you to have a nice view of part of the park.

The A.S.P.A.A.R. - Association for the Safeguarding of the Artisanal and Rural Heritage - was born here, in the former farriery of the village, on 23 September 1988. In 1984, Robert Mignot, the last blacksmith, retired. His son Gerard and some friends then decided to safeguard this place and the craft trades. A.S.P.P.A.R. preserves a rich heritage, restores it and enhances it. It has bought land and is currently rebuilding full-scale village houses. Every two years, a large thematic celebration brings together members and outside contributors for a trip into the trades of the past, farriery, cartonnage, inland navigation... Everything gets back on track thanks to these volunteers, the forge is rekindled, the blacksmiths meet, hit and work with metal. During these occasional events, a bread oven operates thanks to a baker from the association.

Ancient furniture is a in recent times. The unfortunate man does not deserve such treatment! Having lived through the centuries without ambage, remained of a rare beauty at a time when you don't swear only by Ikea, should force a little more respect. The gallery François Léage has been working for generations now to maintain the aura of this furniture and art objects. Specialized in the th century, it will help you to see only high quality objects obtained by the best craftsmen of several trades. From the furniture marqueté to the hectic, laques panels applied to the finest porcelain, it is the century of French gold that resumes. We have to visit this gallery to appreciate all the refinement of such furniture, and even though the contemporary decorators do not lend themselves to play, the mixing of objects of that time to our contemporary interiors is not as unthinkable as one could imagine it… A small tour on the virtual gallery of the site may give you ideas!

The chapiteaux of the northern choir and the north side are admired by the famous ones, and the baptismal fonts (seventeenth century), the Virgin of Pierre, the neo-Gothic oak chair (xixe) and the carved Christ embellishment the interior of the building. In addition to these collections, there are numerous books from the personal library and the revival of the artist's workshop. Please note that a touch gallery is available to visitors: Here, it's no longer the view that is used, but touch - logical for a sculptor, but you have to think about it!
