CHURCH OF SAINT-SEINE-L'ABBAYE

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

25 km from Dijon, in the middle of the forests of Val Suzon, after a 20-minute journey on a winding road, the oldest Gothic Gothic building will point in the middle of the trees. Originally a monastery of the century lived instead of the abbey still on foot. Founded by a monk bearing the name "Sigo" who over time will give the name "Seigne", meaning "Seine", although this sanctuary "sanctus sequanus" has even older origins. The abbey church, in itself, sees the beginning of its construction at the end of the th century and will be completed in the th and th centuries under three abbots, including Jean de Blaisy and Pierre de Fontette. Moreover, we can see the tombstones of the latter in the church. The th century portal is decorated with typical plant motifs typical of Burgundy Gothic. The four-pillar nave and collateral is a fine example of the churches plan of that time. A th century carved stone jubé in the nave was moved to the choir. There are th-century stalls. The most exceptional element is undoubtedly the wall paintings dating back to 1504. They represent the legend of Saint Seine in 22 paintings in the north of the church and, to the south the tree of Jesse, Saint Christopher and litanies of the Virgin in a style that draws its influences in the Renaissance.

CHURCH OF IMMACULATE DESIGN

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

This church is one of the first in France to be built in reinforced concrete, more is on a historically Protestant territory. This architecture gives the building a rather peculiar style, giving it the appearance of fortress imprenable. This holy place was built in 1932 by the plans of the monk Dom Bellot, and has bright stained glass windows that create wonderful light games.

MAJOR SEMINARY

Religious buildings

You have already described this decor… Réflechissez… Some clues, on its history: the work of Archbishop Pierre-Antoine I of Grammont, was built from 1670 to 1695, then complemented by a portal and its body of accommodation by architect Jean-Pierre Galezot in the th century. This building, therefore, in the shape of a Latin cross, has a magnificent chapel with a sumptuous façade adorned with two pilasters in Corinthian style. You're not? Well, it's through your readings that you probably already met, since it's in this building that Stendhal staged Julien Sorel, the hero of Le Rouge and the Black. So why not visit the book by hand?

Abbey monastery and convent

Founded in 1214 by baron de Donzy Hervé IV and Mahaut de Courtenay his wife, this priory belongs to the realm of Val des Choux. EGLISE SAINT-PIERRE-ET-SAINT-PAUL

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

Dating from the twelfth century, the church was rebuilt in the fifteenth century, and its apse was rebuilt in the nineteenth century according to the model of a Romanesque apse. The gem of this church is its twelfth century crypt, classified as a Historical Monument, and whose walls are covered with frescoes dating from the first half of the fourteenth century: a procession of clerics and laity, unique theme known in Nièvre, greets us at the entrance to the crypt and leads us near the altar where the scene of the Crucifixion is represented. On one of the vaults of the crypt, you can see Christ showing his wounds, surrounded by symbols of the four evangelists. Oak leaves, four-leaf clovers and small flowers complement the decor. Note the elegance of the shapes, the preciousness of the gestures and the attitudes which suggest the artistic style from Cour de Saint Louis.

JARDIN DU PETIT ROI DE GRÂCE - SANCTUAIRE DIOCÉSAIN DU SAINT-ENFANT JESUS

Shrines and pilgrimage sites to visit
4/5
1 review
Open - Close to 19h00

Le Petit Roi de Grace is a wonderful statuette made of polychrome wood, 58 cm high and sometimes adorned with sumptuous clothes. It was probably carved by a noble of the name Gaston de Renty. In 1643, he offered it to Marguerite Parigot, a carmelite carmelite carmelite. Entering the Carmel of Beaune at the age of 11, she would have had visions of the child Jesus as well as a gift to help the difficult childbirth, heal new babies and fight sterility. In his prayers, she saw the birth of the future King Louis XIV, born after 12 years of marriage. Many miracles allow Marguerite to be revered since, under the name Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement. Today, the sisters of the community of the Beatitudes leave the monastery to leave their place to 3 carmelite apostolic sisters of the child Jesus from Poland. If they were to expand their community, the place itself was recently proclaimed "sanctuary" and could gain importance as a place of pilgrimage. Don't forget to go through the magnificent Jardin du Petit Roi de Grace: A quiet area, outside the world, ideal for recharge. It houses the chapel in which the statue of the King of Grace is located. A scenic project is being considered to animate the garden and to live the place in a new way.

ABBAYE DU VAL DES CHOUES - MUSÉE OPÉRA DE LA VÈNERIE

Abbey monastery and convent
1.8/5
6 reviews

The Abbaye du Val des Choues is an island in the middle of the Châtillonnais forest and falls under the great religious movement of the West of the 11th and 12th centuries. This building has as an authorizing officer Eudes III, duke of Burgundy in 1193. Inspired by Cistercian and Benedictine rules, Val des Choues scatters up to seventeen monasteries throughout Europe. Inès and Michel Monot invite you to come and join them to discover the boar hunting in their new museum opened in July 2017. Beyond its dramaturgy, you discover the history of hunting in the "Curograph of the equivalence of things and of the beings, animals and humans". The room of the temptation of trophies, echoes, silence, hallali, the workshop of the tailor and the opera of nature have been arranged in the Abbey with the contribution of contemporary artists. Every day, at 4 pm in the high season, do not miss the spectacular soup of dogs. The 150 dogs of tricoloured English-French breed by the crew Pique'avant-Bourgogne are waiting in silence for their master's signal. You will enjoy the gardens where Inès Monot offers basins, vases, flower boxes and Medici style sculptures to decorate your garden. During the season, two guest rooms are available.

Founded around 450, Moutiers-Saint-Jean Abbey is one of the Oldest in Burgundy. Transferred to the current site in the th century about, there are finally not so many remains of that time. Indeed, the th century abbey was destroyed in the Revolution. The most beautiful remains were transferred to prestigious museums: at the Cloisters Museum in New York, at the Louvre in Paris or in Dijon. The buildings that can be discovered today are the work of reconstruction in the late th century. However, the visit is very interesting. It is possible to discover the lounges and the decorations of stucco, the bishop's bathroom, the bedroom of his valet, the cloister gallery and still the staircase inscribed in the Historical Monuments… Every year, novelties await you: exhibitions, precious objects, wood panelling… Good to know: by paying your entrance, you participate in the safeguarding of the monument.

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

Built between the 9th and 11th centuries on the site of a chapel, it was around this church that the first town of Poligny was built, before it was moved to the foot of the Grimont hill. Situated outside the town from the 13th century onwards, the church has undergone numerous destructions over the centuries. However, some elements have survived, such as the 12th-century bell tower, the slate roof and the sculptures and paintings listed as Monuments Historiques.

The beautiful grids that keep entry are one of the particularities of this former hospital. Built between 1735 and 1745 by the architect Galezot, it is now possible to visit it in summer. Those who know the St. Jacques de Besançon hospital will find a certain resemblance between the two buildings. A magnificent staircase is inside. Furniture, paintings, paintings, old instruments and potions… Apothicairerie hides many small treasures that say a lot about the evolution of the apothecary profession.
