CISTERCIAN ABBEY OF GRACE-GOD'S GRACE
Former Cistercian abbey with 35 rooms, 5 meeting rooms and a store with monastic crafts from other monasteries.
This ancient Cistercian abbey was founded in 1139 by monks from the Abbey of Charité in Haute-Saône. The first two centuries of its existence were the most flourishing, seeing the birth of numerous vocations. The monks, who had become numerous, developed the region and built farms in the surrounding area. The 14th century sounded the death knell of this prosperity, the abbey being the object of several plunders linked to local wars, and survived painfully until the Revolution. It was not until 1929 that the place was revived after successive dismantlings, with the installation of Cistercian nuns. The community of Cistercian nuns left in 2004 to be replaced by a community of Missionary Workers of the Immaculate attached to the Society of African Missions of Strasbourg. It continues the tradition of welcoming individuals or groups for spiritual retreats, prayer stops, recollections and training sessions. It is open to individuals, families and small groups.
